First, you would have to finish a two to four year course from your local college or university that offers medical programs. The course should include trainings in either invasive or non-invasive vascular therapy. An associate degree for entry level employment is usually required from cardiovascular technologists. Other than completing the academic program, you should also have on-the-job trainings. Some employers will even require you to obtain a professional credential.

The first year is solely dedicated to core courses and the following years would be on specialized instruction in your chosen area – invasive cardiovascular, noninvasive cardiovascular or noninvasive cardiovascular technology. And for those who have completed allied healthcare profession, they are asked to finish the year of specialized instruction only. Cardiovascular technology educational programs are accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Professionals. As of 2009, there are 168 accredited programs. If you attend any one of these programs, then you can get your professional certification.

If you are an EKG technician, you will be personally trained by your supervisor or a cardiologist. The on-the-job training will last for about four to six weeks. Employers prefer to train people who already have healthcare job experiences. Most of the EKG technicians are pursuing further studies to become a technologist. If you would like to perform Holter monitoring, your hands-on training may last for eighteen to twenty four months. There are also one year training programs about basic EKGs and Holter monitoring that may serve as a substitute for the hands-on training.

Credentialing is actually an option. You can be an EKG technician even without it. But you must remember that it is considered an edge with most of the employers. EKG graduates that have credentials have a better chance with employment.  Most credentials will require you to finish an accredited education before you are qualified to take the credentialing examination. Pursuing further education is usually needed to maintain your certification.

Cardiovascular technicians and technologist must be apt and particular with details. You should be able to follow specific instructions and perform your duties well. You should also be good in dealing with people. Building rapport with patients will make them feel at ease and prepare them for the tests. You should also be knowledgeable about the procedures because you will be conversing with both the doctors and the patients.

EKG technician careers pay fairly well. The average salary for EKG technicians who have work experience for about one to four years can range from $10 to $16 per hour. EKG technicians who have more years of experience receive an average of $18 per hour. The salary is usually different due to factors like your skills and your employer. Annually you can earn as low $25,000 and as high as $65,000.

Instilling higher education in our youth seems to be what every classroom and teacher is all about usually from junior high through high school. Classes and courses are set up to get kids in the mindset that as soon as they graduate, college is next. While there is nothing wrong with attending a 4 year college or university, is it absolutely necessary for a successful career?

In todays society, there are many people who have made successful careers who are high school drop outs, while some college graduates work as waiters and bartenders because they cannot find jobs that they went to school to pursue.

What options are there for those who do not want to spend 4 or 5 years in a college or university and are not simply born into a wealthy family? There are now technical and vocational schools that give students hands on training for fast track careers. Fast track careers vary so much and can take a person in any number of directions. From technical degrees and certifications, to mechanical and art degrees. It is up to each individual to decide the career path they wish to follow.

The highlight of any technical career school program is definitely the career focused training that occurs. This allows for students to learn only the skills needed for the exact job or career they are pursuing. This in turn cuts the learning time in 1/2 or less in many cases, when compared to traditional college courses.

Technical programs such as x ray technicians, respiratory therapist, dental assistants, medical coding and billing, and surgical assistants are just a few of the many career fields you can become certified or registered in. The sky is the limit and the careers offer great benifts, pay and job security in most cases.

Fast Track Career Salaries

Did you know that the average diagnostic medical sonography salary can reach upwards of $35.00 per hour? With only a couple years of schooling, you can earn a degree and be making a great living. Medical employers will always be on the look out for qualified technicians who are trained through accredited technical, vocational or community schools.

Another growing fast track career that requires a higher education is that of radiology. Becoming a tech can be done in a few short years and the salary and benefits are great as well. The average starting radiology tech salary is around $30,000 per year, but can quickly grow upwards of $50,000 per year in little time with promotions and job responsibilities.

Some technical careers do not require formal training and can still pay a respectable salary. Physician and doctors offices will in some cases offer on the job training for assistant positions such as a medical assistant. In most cases you will need to have at least a high school diploma or equivalent, but the expected starting medical assistant salary is just under $20,000 per year. Not a bad starting salary for having no formal or furthered education or skills.

Trade schools, in like manner offer career minded courses that focus solely on the job at hand. With hands on training that is sure to teach in ways that a book cant, will ensure that when you graduate you will be ready to start working right away.

So keep in mind that there are other options when it comes to higher education. College is not for everyone, and a technical or vocational school is definitely a great alternative. Most technical schools are broken into specialty courses and may only teach one specific course. X ray technician schools will often teach all forms of x ray technology. As where an art school will teach all forms of art related career fields.
